Nokia 2300

The 2300 may be targeted at the entry level market, but Nokia decided to add a few features fromthe higher end phones to this newcomer, including a FM Radio and Polyphonic Ringtones.

Though lacking a color display, the 2300 tries to balance that by adding more than a bit of color to the exterior. The 2300 has a number of different color covers available and two different keypads that can all be mixed and matched to create a number of different styles.

Also interesting, the 2300 has a "SMS Junk Filter" in its arsenal. We're quite interested to see exactly how that works, as I'm sure that there are a lot of people out there that are sick of the random SMS advertisements they receive.

Looking for a fun way to stay in touch? Get loads of audio features and a cool new design with the Nokia 2300 phone. Mix-and-match covers and a changeable keymat multiply into dozens of looks. Huddle up with your friends to make a group call, or turn up the volume when the song you've been waiting for gets FM airplay. Best of all, lots of flair doesn't have to crimp your style: In-call timer and SMS counter help you keep track of your budget each time you connect with your friends.

Nokia 2300, an entry-level phone optimized for voice and messaging, as well as fun and personalization. Targeted specifically at young-minded, fun-loving people in new growth markets such as China, India and Russia, the Nokia 2300 offers users a range of Xpress-on (TM) cover options, built-in polyphonic ring tones, an FM radio, and games in a modern and expressive style.

The new phone operates on GSM 900/1800 networks. In addition to voice calls and text messaging, the Nokia 2300 phone features an alarm clock, a calculator, an FM radio, three games and an internal hands-free speaker for group communication. With the dual-earpiece headset included in the sales package, users can listen to the radio or make hands-free calls comfortably on the go. The Nokia 2300 offers a new 4-way scroll with a Navi (TM) key making messaging and gaming easy and fast. Right scrolling provides a shortcut to the menus or options lists, allowing users to access features quickly or accomplish selected tasks without going through the complete menu sequence.

The trendy Nokia 2300 provides customers with multiple choices for fun and personalization. Users can tailor the phone to fit their mood and style with a number of optional Xpress-on (TM) color covers. The Nokia 2300 weighs 92 grams, and offers up to 4,5 hours of talk-time and up to 400 hours of stand-by time.

To enable operators to offer high quality voice services in a cost effective manner, the Nokia 2300 supports Adaptive Multirate (AMR) speech codec.* AMR is the fourth speech codec defined for the GSM system. The panels do no embrace the phone entirely, but only its front, back, top and bottom, while the sides make a single whole with the base unit. In our model the base is light gray (it seems that all production samples will have this color), the covers are made of blue semitransparent matte plastic, and the keypad is rubber with a while pearl surface. The covers and side panels are pleasant by touch, but the keys are a bit sticky when you touch them with wet fingers.

The front panel catches on the basic unit with two pairs of protrusions. The back side attaches to the front one with the same juts underneath, and with a latch above. Thus, the removable covers embrace the base unit and additionally hook to it in the center. The hooks are quite tight though they don't turn assembling into a torture. The design has no backlash (though it crackles a little when compressed in a hand) and is not going to loosen with time because you clamp mostly the side panels. Nokia 1650

Designed to deliver a wide range of mobile features, the contemporary Nokia 1650 phone offers an aspirational design and practical features to help consumers balance their personal and professional lives. Supporting up to 75 local languages, the Nokia 1650 comes equipped with a flashlight, music-on-the-go via FM radio and MP3-grade ringtones. With an integrated application that allows for a pre-set time limit to be set for each call, the Nokia 1650 answers the need for cost control that is especially important in entry markets. Nokia estimates that the retail price for the Nokia 1650 will be around 55 EUR, excluding taxes and subsidies.
One of the cheapest Nokia handsets available in the current range, there are no illusions about the aim of this handset — simple talk and text. Offered as one of Vodafone’s prepaid handsets, the 1650 has an FM radio and a flashlight but suffers from poorly designed controls. The 1650 is a compact and lightweight handset, but feels reasonably well built considering the asking price. A good example of this is the rear battery cover: it’s easy to slide off but holds firmly in place and doesn’t rattle or creak when attached. The 1650 is finished entirely in a matte black plastic, while a gloss black bezel with silver highlights surrounds the display. The biggest issue with the 1650 is its controls. At first glance, they look acceptable — a soft green backlight accompanies each key to ensure it can be used in dim light, while a simple four-way navigational pad, two selection buttons and answer/end calls keys keeps things tidy and effective. Unfortunately, the buttons have an overly spongy feel, meaning they require a firm press to activate. For messaging, this means a slightly steep leaning curve, and the slight keystroke lag doesn’t help either.
The 1650’s display is small but adequate considering the target market. The screen has a resolution of 128x160 and supports up to 65K colours, though it has poor viewing angles and is difficult to read in direct sunlight. Thankfully, call quality is fairly good, while the hands-free speakerphone also works well and produces reasonable volume.
Features are sparse, but the built-in FM radio is a nice touch considering the price point. Conveniently, holding down the asterisk key for two seconds launches the radio application, though you’ll need to use the included headset as this acts as an FM antenna. The included HS-105 headset also doubles as a hands-free device and features a call handling button and shirt clip built into the cord. The radio offers reasonable but not outstanding quality. Auto-tuning is available by holding down the up button on the navigational pad, while up to 10 presets can be saved and then accessed by scrolling through using the left and right directional buttons or pressing a corresponding number on the keypad.
Nokia brings a compelling combination of form and function to the entry market with announcement of the Nokia 1650. This device is designed to give consumers more features and a higher level of design than would be expected from such an affordable device. "Whether the consumer is a first-time buyer who has little experience with mobile phones, or a more well-versed customer looking for a mobile phone for personal or business use, each will find what they need in the Nokia 1650," said Soren Petersen, Senior Vice President, Mobile Phones, Nokia. "Creating a mobile phone that combines an intuitive user interface and easy-to-use functions with an attractive design is at the heart of Nokia's entry market strategy."

Nokia 1600 Review

The Nokia 1600 is an excellent cell phone for persons who want a device primarily for making and receiving calls and exchanging simple text messages. A handy feature appreciated by casual users is a graphical demonstration mode that displays how to use the basic functions of the phone.

The Nokia 1600 is simple but trendy, featured but cheap. It has an excellent battery life with a speaking alarm clock. It can send SMS and picture messages with ease. Its minuscule design and size can fit right into your pocket. With a first-rate keypad, a 4-way scroll key and a user-friendly interface, the Nokia 1600 is a sure standout.

The color screen displays up to 65,536 colors and numbers displayed while making a call are large. The 4.09 inch length, 1.77 inch width, and 0.67 inch thick candy bar shape, and 2.82 ounce weight make the phone comfortable to handle. The large and widely spaced illuminated entry keys are easy to use. Another nice feature is a speaking alarm clock that is loud enough to prevent sleeping in.

With the Nokia 1600, SMS (Short Message Service) and Instant Messaging are supported and the Speed Dial function and a Distribution List can be used to send messages in addition to placing calls. In addition, 8 Text Templates can be used to store commonly sent messages. There is also an "Undo" function to avoid accidental erasure of e-mails. Text can be entered quickly and accurately with the T9 Predictive Text method or text can be entered in the conventional repetitive keying manner.

The phone provides a vibrate alert and integrated hands free functionality is standard. A full duplex speaker phone is loud and provides good sound quality. The standard contact list stores 200 contacts and 250 more can be stored in an optional SIM card if supported by the communications network provider.

The screen display can be customized with wallpaper, themes, and animated color screen savers. In addition, 20 polygraphic ring tones are provided. A Reminder List will sound an alert when a task is due and a postpone function can be activated to remind again in ten minutes.

Network communication is via GSM E850/1900 MHz with automatic switching between bands.

Overall, the Nokia 1600 is an excellent choice for those who only want a basic, quality cell phone at a low cost.
